Frequently Asked Questions

We may be able to help you already with some quick questions and answers that we get from time to time.

My toilet is screeching and painfully noisy, what is wrong?

Some new pressure assisted toilets make a range of annoying sounds, unfortunately not much can be done to relieve this problem. However if it is a relatively old toilet and it has just started screeching, some parts in the tank are most likely to be suffering from fatigue and the fill valve needs to be repaired or replaced. The sounds won't damage your toilet, it is just an annoying sound.

Water is not entering the bowl when I try to flush my toilet, why is this?

Check to make sure your water supply is on. If it is on and your toilet still is not filling up with water, carefully lift the lid to your toilet tank and you will probably discover the strap or chain to the flapper has come loose or broken. If it has come loose you need to contact us on 0800 147 369. Or Click Here for a free quote.

How do I know if my toilet is blocked?

You will know if your toilet is blocked if it cannot flush all solids down. Your toilet trap can become blocked or the surrounding pipes can clog up completely if you don't call one of our toilet plumbers to come in and fix it. Your drain is blocked when your gully trap over flows, if you want to know more about drains go to our drain unblocking site. Click Here.

What causes the blockages?

Waste water and sewerage all go to a central run down point. To get to this point waste water and sewerage need to go through a pipe and into the drain. On a daily basis men shave, we shower, clean food off dishes, flush away waste and disposable material. This means grease, grime, hair, food and other matter are traveling down the pipes to go into the drain.

If there is a large amount of solid matter, disposable objects and thick substances being put down these pipes without enough water to keep them flowing, a build up will occur and potentially block your pipes and drains. Human action is not always the reason for a blockage, the environment can also play a part. Tree roots and other debris from plants can also cause blockages and growths inside pipes and drains, so a regular check of your pipes and drains is essential. You can even get us in to have a look if you are worried.

How can I prevent these toilet blockages?

  • Do not wash or flush hair down the toilet, instead dispose of it in your bathroom rubbish bin.
  • Never flush sanitary waste, disposable wipes or disinfectant wipes down the toilet. Dispose of them in your bathroom or kitchen bin
  • Root growths into your pipes and drains can be avoided by planning your garden appropriately. Do not plant trees anywhere near pipes or drains, or get a plumber to come in and help to show you where your pipes are according to your landscape.
